Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) Procedures:
For the first lap, the lead racer must log in with the Registrar
from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. at the log table by showing his team
#, stating his first and last name for the Registrar to record,
and then scanning his RFID card. Watch the light on the scanner
change from red to green. The Registrar will then give the
lead racer one baton per team.
When the lead racer finishes his lap, he hands the baton
to the Registrar, states his team #, first and last name,
and
then scans his card. Watch the light on the scanner change
from red to green. Next, the racer starting his lap will
state his team #, first and last name, and then scan his
card. Watch
the light on the scanner change from red to green. Then the
racer takes the baton from the Registrar and goes on his
merry way.
Each racer must follow this procedure throughout the race
for each and every lap. State your team #, your first and
last
name and make sure the Registrar is logging you in and
out correctly. Remember this: (give) baton, scan, scan, (get)
baton.
Be aware that the log sheet is the primary source of all
data and results. Each racer is responsible for accurately
logging
in and logging out correctly. The Registrar must fill out
the log sheet completely, so be courteous and patient.
Scanning Order:
The racer finishing his lap (Racer #1) must hand the baton
to the Registrar, then scan his card before the racer
starting his lap (Racer #2). If not, Racer #2 will cancel
the lap
of Racer #1. This is really, really important.
Remember: The Registrar holds the baton while the racer
finishing his lap scans his card and the racer starting
his lap scans
his card°™in that order. If a racer logs out and
no racer is °∞on deck,°± the Registrar
will hold the baton until the racer starting his lap arrives
to scan his card, take the baton and go. The clock is still
ticking (the tardy racer inherits the previous racer 's log
out time).
Errors:
If a scan was missed for any of the following reasons,
the Registrar will fill out an Error Report Form and
give it
to Granny Gear Staff. It is the responsibility of each
racer to
report any errors to GGP Staff.
Improper Scan Order: When the
racer starting his lap scans his card before the racer finishing
his lap, it cancels the lap of
the racer
finishing
his lap. Be aware that the scanner can only scan
one card at a time. We understand that the baton exchange
is a critical
time, so be very careful during the transitions.
Lost Card: If
the racer finishing his lap has lost his card, he will hand
the baton to the
Registrar,
then the
racer
starting
his lap
will scan his card, take the baton and go. The
Registrar will fill out an Error Report Form for the missed
scan and give
it to a Granny Gear Staff member. If you lose your
card for any reason, there is a $5 charge for each
lost card.
Bring
$5 to the information tent and a GGP Staff member
will issue you a replacement card. If a racer starting
his
lap has forgotten
or lost his card, he must find his card or purchase
a $5 replacement card before he can scan in to
leave
for
his
lap. Absolutely
no exceptions. It 's a good idea for each racer
to carry $5 at all times.
Card Did Not Scan:
1) If the card of the racer finishing
his lap does not scan, the racer starting his lap can scan
his card, take
the baton
and go. Registrars will fill out an Error Report
Form and give it to a GGP Staff member; the racer
must bring
his
defective card to exchange for a free replacement
card at the Information
tent well in advance of his next lap.
2) If the card of the
racer starting his lap does not scan, the Registrar
will hand the baton
to
him and
he may leave
for his lap. Registrars will fill out an Error
Report Form and
give it to a GGP Staff member. A free replacement
card will be issued when the racer brings his
defective card to the
Information tent after his lap.
Reward: Please return all RFID
cards at the end of your last lap on Sunday morning. Turn
your card
in to the Registrar
or
drop
your card in the RFID collection boxes in the
log tent or at the Granny Goods Booth. By returning
the RFID
cards, this
keeps
costs down so we won 't have to charge a deposit
fee to racers in the future. When you turn
in your
card,
your
name is automatically
entered into a drawing for sponsor swag!
