Cash Purse Announced for Pros in the 24 Hours of Sunlight Endurance Race

December 15, 2008; Glenwood Springs, Colorado - What could make hiking, skiing or boarding for a good cause more enjoyable and rewarding? How about getting paid cash to do it? 24 Hours of Sunlight, sponsored by American National Bank and Colorado Mountain Express, reminds pros that there continues to be a cash purse for the pro categories in this year’s race.  Along with the prizes and giveaways offered to all of this year’s racers, a cash purse will be divided among first, second and third places, in each pro category. Pro categories include the Men’s Solo, Women’s Solo, and Duos. The purse is just another great incentive to participate in this amazing race. The dollar amount of the cash purse will be determined by the amount received in pro’s registration fees. Essentially, the more pros that sign up to compete, the stiffer the competition and the larger the pay off.

Traditionally, the 24 Hours field shapes up to be exceptionally fast and strong. Last year, Eric Sullivan of Crested Butte, set the new world record for most human powered vertical feet in 24 hours. With 34 completed laps under his belt, he reached 51,068 vertical feet which is 47.6 miles. Following Sullivan in the men’s solo event was Glenwood’s own, Bobby Lowe. Lowe completed 28 laps of the course. Brian Johnson of Aspen, who recorded the fastest one-lap time of the day for solo competitors (33 minutes!), came in third for the men.

Molly Zurn of Reno, Nevada logged 22 laps, which gave her just over 33,000 feet of coverage and the women's world record. Zurn did manage to stay ahead of Polly McLean, who came in as the ladies runner-up with a stellar performance of her own, completing 20 laps. Elizabeth Schulte turned in a 17-lap effort for third place in the women’s division.

“The cash purse is a great way to engage the pros in intense competition,” says Mary Kenyon, President of Real Time Marketing who is producing the event.  “Of course, this will not affect the fun, energetic, and enthusiastic atmosphere of the race for those that are competing in teams of 4, 5, 6 and Just For Fun, for personal goals or to break their personal best records. This race is still about supporting the community and getting out there and having a good time with friends and family.”

24 Hours of Sunlight is scheduled for February 7-8, 2009. If you haven’t signed up to race yet, there is still time to save $25 per racer!  Just register before December 31st at midnight.  Gather your team or go solo and register at www.24hoursofsunlight.com
